Whatever your quibbles with, say, the Harry Potter films, or any movie adaptation of a much-loved book or superhero or tv show- I know I ranted about the upcoming Mysteries of Pittsburgh, for one thing, but-

THINK HOW MUCH WORSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN

Dear 20th Century Fox: What the hell? THIS IS NOT EVEN THE SAME BOOK.

The Dark Is Rising does not have one-liners. And that is not Will Stanton. Will Stanton does not angst about Girl Problems. In this book, Will Stanton is eleven. The whole Arthurian element seems to have been cut out, even.

Thank you for raping my childhood, Fox!

No love,

me

Dear Susan Cooper: I really hope they gave you a reasonable amount of money. I don't blame you. Really. I get the feeling studios were jumping on the books-with-kids-and-magic bandwagon, you were the next in line, or someone sold off the rights years ago, and because you're not as hyper-famous as JKR you didn't get much say in the adaptation.

Condolences,

me
