You know what's a good word? Chthonic. Chthonic is a good word.

... as in, "Man, those ancient fertility rituals are totally chthonic!"

or "I'm sorry, I'm feeling a bit chthonic today, how about tomorrow?"

or "I was enjoying (insert title of play/book/film here) but then it all got a bit chthonic for me."


Also, an honest-to-god direct quote from Anthony Trollope, The Warden:
