So, um.

I am suddenly, unexpectedly, and overpoweringly into House. It allllllll started when [livejournal.com profile] futuresoon posted about the Exceptional Gay that occurred in last week's episode, and I RECKLESSLY asked exactly what this Exceptional Gay consisted of, and tracked it down and viewed it.

SUFFICE IT TO SAY that I have spent most of my time since about Thursday evening either watching or thinking or reading about House. There was a time when I was kind of into the show, I suppose, but never to a very great extent. I only watched it intermittently and pretty much gave up watching it entirely ages ago.

BUT. I am now in love with them ALL. Obviously there is House and Wilson and their GREAT GAY LOVE, but there is also EXCITING NEW CHARACTERS in season 4 and EXCITING OLD CHARACTERS still around (I think the way they've done the cast change works really well), and the EXCITING NEW CHARACTERS are frequently people I recognise! LOOK! I cry out. IT IS SHE FROM THE BOOK GROUP. IT IS HE OF HAROLD AND KUMAR.

Essentially I want to say this: season 4 of House indeed shakes it up a bit, but it does so REALLY WELL. It is all so fun! I almost like the old characters more than I did before.

Plus, you know, the force gay is strong with this one. I cannot think of any other show that skates so knowingly close to the edge (the edge of CANON SLASH). The awesomeness and extent of the subtext in Due South, for example, is linked to the fact that people making the show were aware of it, but the show pretended, tongue jammed firmly in cheek, that there was Absolutely None Of That Going On, Why Do You Ask? while playing up to it all the time.

The beauty of the subtext in House is partly that yes, the writers are aware of it, and yes, some of them really do mean it, but also that we've got beyond that point where the people who make the show can ignore it or pretend (whether genuinely or tongue-in-cheek) that there is Absolutely None Of That Going On.

And in conclusion: SOMEONE REC ME SOME FIC, I HAVE YEARS OF CANON TO CATCH UP ON.

Um. Can anyone rec me some fanfic? Slash, preferably, anything that doesn't suck, but gen and het are ok too if you think there's something worth reading. I haven't read any fanfic for ages (two weeks is ages!) and dear lord I have a craving. Which fandom doesn't matter too much- I'm very familiar with several, vaguely familiar with a lot more, and really don't care if I'm dumped in a fandom I know nothing about at all. Tell me the last thing you read, if anything.
