Yes, what it says. MISFITS! My darling dysfunctional juvenile-delinquent washed-out-grey-and-lurid-orange fandom of sex, violence and sick humour and profoundly affecting pathos! It's like someone saw Heroes and thought 'let's make the opposite of this, let's make ANTIHEROES - because they really are, they are the anti-est of antiheroes you are likely to encounter on TV right now.

(This is, I think, the fourth post I have made in a row (counting the yuletide letter) that has no Sherlock fic in it - this hurts me in my soul but I must EXPRESS MY LOVE)

warning for capslock enthusiasm, seriously be aware of the capslock behind the cut, the shall we say INTRIGUING thing was that in the preview for next week we saw - (spoilers for the preview for next week, also for just generally the show)

I have sort of decided to ship it? I thought, waaay back in series one, that any non-canon pairing was basically impossible in this fandom because the characters were too fully realised, and frankly the acting was too good (i.e. no bad acting that is the same for 'hate' and 'friends' and 'in love' a la Smallville) - but I remember my brain sneakily adding, 'well, if you NEED to slash something, Nathan and Simon have that classic antagonistic thing going on!' and now that sneaky part of my brain feels validated. Nathan was/is constantly in Simon's face insulting him, and Simon... wants to be his friend. And this doesn't make him a nicer person! He's still super creepy! What I love about Misfits is that they all have good qualities, and also they all have REALLY AWFUL qualities.

I suspect entirely that this (NATHAN KISSING SIMON ON THE CORNER OF THE MOUTH) is just teasing and next week's mysterious happening-that-is-somehow-linked-to-them-having-superpowers is 'Nathan wakes up GAY!' or something like that.

Thing is, I love Kelly - she's probably got the strongest morals of them all (and then to balance that out she's the quickest to turn to physical violence, and smash things etc, including people in the face, see how this antihero thing works?) - and I do like her relationship with Nathan too.

AND Curtis & Alisha's relationship - I love how someone behind Misfits clearly saw Pushing Daisies, and thought 'come on, if you couldn't physically touch your boyfriend/girlfriend, that is really not  a barrier to all sexual fulfilment of any kind.' So in s1 there was the curious romanticism of Curtis and Alisha furiously masturbating while staring into each others' eyes. They can't touch each other! Doesn't mean they can't look. I haven't seen all of Pushing Daisies, I only remember the clingfilm kisses - I doubt somehow that Ned and Chuck did - that.

UGH I shall just ship everyone with everyone. And wait like the perv I am for next week.

ETA: ok there are clips of next week on the website. There is - nothing to really indicate what's going to happen next week, because if there was, no one would watch it. And Robert Sheehan (who plays Nathan) has this incredible gift of being able to make everything he says sound insincere. Including the insincere things. And there's a bit in one of next week's clips where Nathan says that Simon is like a sexy shark! which is true, isn't it, Simon has an Ian Curtis-y quality, kind of freaky and kind of omg-so-much-beauty-he-has.

this post doesn't even make any sense. I heart Misfits. that is the main thing.

I am so looking forward to finally getting to watch 2x02, you have no idea. (essay on Plato, of all things, is intervening.)

and I DO NOT KNOW HOW IT IS SO GOOD. I guess I like it much more than most superpowered-teen shows because they're all *genuinely* weird and dysfunctional? (as in, more so than Skins, which I also love but is a bit "oh these beautiful rich people have so many problems") Like... I'm not gonna lie, I identify with Simon to a quite ridiculous extent if only because I was socially isolated and nerdy in much the same way when I was younger, and it's nice to see someone like that portrayed in a sympathetic if not exactly positive light.

edit because I keep getting the names mixed up, fffffff. It doesn't help that Curtis's actor is called Nathan. I WILL NEVER LEARN.

YES, the fact that their dysfunction is real - they are ALREADY messed up, and in genuinely affecting ways, and the powers mostly make things worse - that is definitely a big part of it.
